Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA, CA - Visalia's (50-30, 4-6) come-back bid fell just short as San Jose (43-36, 4-6) broke two ties en route to a 7-5 win at Recreation Ballpark on Saturday Night.

Tied 4-4 in the sixth San Jose was able to score two runs on an infield single by CF Ronnie Jebavy and then an RBI single by RF Dylan Davis, who has eight RBIs in the series. The two runs broke the 4-4 tie and gave San Jose a 6-4 lead before finally going on to win 7-5.

RHP Brad Keller (6-5, 4.42) gave up individual runs in the first and second innings to San Jose when Jebavy doubled to begin the ball game, two batters later Davis brought him home with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. In the second an error allowed 3B Jose Vizcaino Jr. to reach base safely and then he moved to third on back-to-back groundouts and scored on a Keller wild pitch for the 2-0 lead.

Visalia, against RHP Jordan Johnson (6-6, 4.63), cracked the scoreboard with a 2B Henry Castillo double, a 3B Dawel Lugo infield single and an RBI fielder's choice by RF Stryker Trahan to make it 2-1. In the second CF Colin Bray led off the inning with a triple and then two batters later 2B Domingo Leyba scored him with a RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

The fourth inning saw San Jose plate two more runs on four singles, including two infield singles, one by 2B T.J. Bennett and one by Jebavy. Jebavy's knocked in Bennett and then DH Kelby Tomlinson, on a rehab assignment, drove in SS Richard Rodriguez with a single to make it 4-2.

The Rawhide clawed back once again when Bray reached on an error in the fifth. SS Robelys Reyes singled and then Leyba doubled home Bray to cut it to 4-3 and then Reyes scampered home on a wild pitch to climb even once again at 4-4.

Keller started the sixth but didn't finish it. He allowed Bennett and LF Robbie Garvey to reach base and then gave up two RBI singles, one to Jebavy and one to Davis to push the lead to 6-4 and that was the end of his night. Keller finished with 5.2 innings on the mound and six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and he struck out one batter in the loss.

Lugo crushed a pitch from Johnson in the sixth inning over the left-centerfield wall for a solo home run, his 12th long ball of the season to make it a 6-5 game but that's as close as the Rawhide got.

Johnson pitched six innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and he struck out six in the win for San Jose.

LHP Will Locante came in the issued a two out walk followed by an RBI double to 1B Jonah Arenado to push the lead to 7-5 for San Jose and that was the eventual final.

The Rawhide are now 9-6 against San Jose this season including 6-3 at Recreation Ballpark against their North Division rival. Tomorrow night in game four of the series the Rawhide will send LHP Alex Young (0-0, -.--) to the mound in his California League debut against RHP Jose Reyes (2-2, 4.46) of San Jose. First pitch at 6:00 p.m. and The Fireworks Spectacular will follow the game.
