The Mavericks out-shot the Thunder by a 16-11 count in the first period and out-chanced Wichita 3-1 on the power play, but found themselves trailing by two after 20 minutes. The Thunder capitalized on their first shot of the game with Louick Marcotte beating Josh Robinson for his sixth goal of the season. That goal at 49 seconds of the first set the tone for the period. The Thunder took advantage of all three of their high-quality scoring chances in the frame while the Mavericks were not as opportunistic. Vincent Arsenau cashed in a 2-on-1 shorthanded goal eight minutes into the game, and 2:54 later Jamie Doornbosch slammed home a rebound after Robinson stopped a breakaway. The Mavericks started to chip away at the deficit late in the first when Shawn Pauly punched home his second of the season while the Mavs worked on the power play.

Despite a 14-13 shot advantage in the second period, the Mavericks saw their deficit grow as Scott Greenham turned away everything the Mavericks threw at him and Arseneau netted his second of the game. The Mavericks had a handful of quality scoring chances, but Greenham snuffed out a Matt Robertson shot on a 2-on-1, Pauly rung one off a post and Matt Finn sailed a backhander over the crossbar. Arseneau, meanwhile, took a stretch pass into the attack zone and beat Robinson with a wrist shot at 13:12 that put Wichita in front by three.

Missouri saved its best for the third period and nearly pulled even with the Thunder. They struck twice before the third was halfway over and left ample time to attemtp to complete the comeback. Lukas Lofquist brought the Mavericks within two thanks to his seventh goal of the season, on the power play, at 7:25. Dane Fox followed with a blistering one-timer that beat Greenham under the crossbar 1:21 after Lofquist's goal. Missouri peppered Greenham with 14 shots in the period and limited Wichita to six, but the comeback never fully materialized.

Robinson saved 26 of the 30 shots he faced while the Mavericks went 2-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
