CHECKING THE RIVALRY

The Mavericks are facing the Thunder tonight for the second of 13 meetings this season in the "Visit Wichita, Visit Independence" Cup, and the second of six at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Mavericks are 0-1-0 against the Thunder this season after falling 4-1 in Wichita on October 21. The winner of the "Visit Wichita, Visit Independence" Cup will get a trophy and $2,000 for their local youth hockey program. The series opener was one of just three games this season the Mavericks have lost in regulation after scoring first. Missouri owned the season series last year with a 13-1-1 overall record against the Thunder, which included a 7-1-0 mark on the road. The Mavericks and Thunder will find out if familiarity truly does breed contempt over the next few weeks. Between today and January 14 the Thunder will be Missouri's opponent in five of its 12 games. Only two of those five (Jan. 6 and 7) will be played in Independence.

ONE-TIMER * The Mavericks are averaging 3.33 goals per game over their last six road games (3-1-2). They will be trying to take advantage of a Wichita defense that allows 3.46 goals per game on home ice.
