Mavericks Fall to Rush at Home

Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks were unable to overcome the rush of goals Rapid City brought upon the Missouri net on Friday night, falling 3-7 at the Independence Events Center.

The Mavericks brought their A-game to the ice at the start of the first period, working as a strong unit, blocking shots, communicating, connecting on passes, keeping pace with the speed of their opponents, and edging the Rush out in shots on goal. But the in-sync start was short-lived, and the Rush were first to strike to end the first period 1-0 Rapid City.

Second period underway, the league-leading Rush drove home a second goal only 31 seconds into play, followed by another definitive strike at the 3:15 mark to take a 3-0 lead over the Mavs. Missouri finally found its way onto the board just over the halfway point of the period, and Colt King brought the arena to their feet, assisted by Andrew Courtney and Colten Hayes. The Rush answered back with their fourth goal of the night to make it 4-1 heading into the third period.

Mavericks fans were sure that Missouri had found their stride back into the game with two big goals early in the third period, bringing the match within just one goal, but before the excitement from Obi Aduba's goal had a chance to die down, mayhem in front of the Mavericks goal brought out a penalty shot for the Rush. Jesse Schultz was able to capitalize on this unfortunate opportunity, and shortly after he had locked away the fifth point of the game for Rapid City, Sean Erickson deflated the arena with another goal to make it 6-3 Rush. The finally tally of the night belonged to Justin Faryna, sealing a 7-3 victory for Rapid City, ending the team's three-game slide at the Mavericks expense.

The loss at the top of this back-to-back series ensures that if the Mavericks are going to take over the number one spot in the league, it is not happening this weekend.

The Mavericks get their chance at redemption tomorrow night against the Rush at the Independence Events Center. Tickets are still available at Ticketmaster.com and the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office. Puck drops at 7:05PM.
