Cutthroats Zimmerman Scores Winning Goal

Allen - The Denver Cutthroats and Allen Americans were tied for third in the Central Hockey League standings heading into the game on Friday, January 10 at Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas. The Cutthroats defeated the Americans 4-3 in overtime after coming back from a 3-0 deficit. With the victory, the Cutthroats move into second place in the Central Hockey League point standings.

After a scoreless opening period, Ross Rouleau (Dallas Ehrhardt, Kale Kerbashian) put the puck past Denver's goaltender Kent Patterson less than a minute into the second period. After the Cutthroats committed back-to-back penalties, the Americans Tyler Ludwig (Greger Hanson, Kerbashian) pushed the Allen lead 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Greger Hanson (Jonathan Lessard, Brian McMillin) gave Allen their third consecutive goal as he put a loose puck into the back of Denver's net. With one second remaining in the period, Troy Schwab (Steve Kaunisto, Garett Bembridge) put the Cutthroats on the board after scoring on the power play.

Early in the third, J.P. Chabot (Daniel Barczuk, Bembridge) scored on the power play to pull the Cutthroats within one goal. Five minutes later, Troy Schwab set up a streaking Barczuk (Schwab, Bembridge) to tie the score at 3 and send the game into overtime. Sean Zimmerman (Mikael Tam, Bembridge) sealed the victory for the Cutthroats with his first goal of the season and closed the night 4-3 Denver.

The Denver Cutthroats will face the Allen Americans for the second night in the two-game weekend series on Saturday, January 11 at Allen Event Center. The Cutthroats road series will continue in Rapid City, South Dakota against the Rush on Friday, January 17, Saturday, January 18 and Monday, January 20.
