Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO (December 31, 2014)- The Missouri Mavericks closed 2014 with 1 point from their back-to-back home and home series against long time rival, the Wichita Thunder. After finishing their Tuesday night game in a shootout decision to earn 1 point in the Central Division standings, the Mavs fell short 4-3 against the Thunder on Wednesday night at Independence Events Center during their New Year's Eve rivalry matchup.
The Thunder opened the scoreboard just under five minutes into the game with a goal by Mike Wilson, assisted by Todd Hosmer and Danick Gauthier (4:56). The Mavs got the equalizer at 12:08 with a lamp-lighter from Josh Brittain, aided by David Rutherford and Martin Lee.
Missouri took a brief 2-1 lead over Wichita when Rutherford slipped a shot past Thunder net minder Tim Boron midway through the second frame. Lindsay Sparks was credited with the assist on Rutherford's sixth goal of the season. But the Missouri lead was short-lived as only twenty seconds later, Ian Lowe sunk a goal behind Maxime Lagace between the pipes for the Mavs.
The Thunder weren't done twisting the knife in the second period as they tallied two more points less than two minutes apart via Eric Meland (16:00) and Todd Hosmer (17:56).
Team Captain Sebastien Thinel scored the lone goal of the third period for the Mavs to bring Missouri within one of Wichita 4-3. Sparks and Ehrhardt were credited with the assists.
The Mavericks play their next game on the road on Friday against the Quad City Mallards at the iWireless Center before returning home on Saturday evening for a 7:05pm (CST) matchup against the visiting Brampton Beast at Independence Events Center.
Tickets are available online at TicketMaster.com or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center.
