Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks made it out of their Friday night matchup with the St. Charles Chill with a 4-3 victory at the Family Arena. Only 3 Mavericks players tallied points from the match, as the Thinel, Castonguay, and Courteny line delivered every goal and assist in the evening for Missouri.

Team Captain Sebastien Thinel opening the scoreboard up for the Mavericks only 9 seconds into the game with a rush goal off a pass from Andrew Courtney. The Mavericks jumped up 2-0 when Andrew Courtney tallied his own lamp-lighter at the 10 minute mark of the first period, assisted by Eric Castonguay and Sebastien Thinel. Then Nicklas Lindburg cut the Missouri lead in half with a St. Charles goal only 1 minute later with his 9th goal of the season.

Eric Castonguay bumped up the Mavericks lead in the second period 3-1 with a top-shelf goal off a perfect feed from Sebastien Thinel. Andrew Courtney tallied the secondary helper on Castonguay's goal.

Leading 3-1 heading into the third period the Mavericks were looking only 20 minutes away from a sure victory, but the Chill had 2 goals ready to slip past Mavs' goaltender Shane Owen only 1 minute and 30 seconds apart to tie the game up 3-3 in the opening 5 minutes of the frame. It was Eric Castonguay who would make the Mavericks winning move with an unassisted goal at 11:58 of the third to make it 4-3 Missouri.

The Missouri Mavericks lead the Central Hockey League with 70 points, 6 points ahead of the second place Allen Americans.

The Missouri Mavericks play their next game at home at the Independence Events Center on Saturday night against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05pm.
