Local Couple's "Wedding on Ice" at Missouri Mavericks Game

On Saturday, March 1st the Missouri Mavericks will be hosting a very special "Wedding on Ice" for a very deserving couple. James and Sarah Luptak will be renewing their vows on the ice during the first period intermission of the Missouri Mavericks game against the Wichita Thunder in front of a sold out arena.

The Mavericks partnered with Kennedy's Custom Jewelers and Village Gardens to find a special couple to win the prize of a wedding/renewal of vows on the ice during a Mavericks game, and $2500 in store credit to Kennedy's Custom Jewelers. Love stories were submitted to Kennedy's Custom Jewelers and the 5 favorite submissions were posted in a contest on Facebook where fans could vote for their favorite love story to win the "Wedding on Ice." James and Sarah's love story blew out the competition.

Here is their Love Story:

James and Sarah were married on July 20, 2002. Like any other couple, they shared dreams of having children, a house, traveling, and just enjoying life together. Just like any other dream, at some point you wake up. In 2010, their son was rushed to the hospital and ended up needing an appendectomy. The next year, James was told his kidney function had declined to the point of starting to think about dialysis or a transplant. In 2012 he was put on the transplant waiting list. James' best friend and wife immediately decided to see if she could be his match. After many tests, they found out they were a perfect match, further showing that they were truly meant to be together. James and Sarah prepared for surgery during their 10th anniversary and could not really celebrate it properly. James said, "To have your wife truly save your life is a feeling of love and admiration that one cannot truly comprehend until you experience it yourself." James would love to honor his wife and what she did and give her the 10th anniversary gift she deserves by winning the Wedding on Ice and renewing their vows.

The renewing of vows will take place on the ice at the Independence Events Center during the first period intermission of the MIZ vs WIC game at approximately 7:30pm. Contact Madeleine Stroth at 816-266-0701 with any questions regarding the event.
