Chill Comeback in Third But Fall to Mavs
February 28, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - The Chill battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to tied the game at 3-3 in the third period in front of a record crowd of 5,536 but the Missouri Mavericks took a 4-3 lead midway through the final period and held on for a win in their final game at the Family Arena this season.
The night started out with a standing ovation for special guest Brett Hull but Missouri (34-16-2) quieted the crowd just nine seconds in on a goal from Sebastian Thinel and then stretched their lead to 2-0 midway through the period. St. Charles (10-37-6) answered quickly with a nifty goal from Nicklas Lindberg, his ninth, on an assist from Zack Josepher. The teams would skate evenly into the locker room.
The game turned physical in the second period with captain Jordan Fox, just off injured reserve, setting the tone for the Chill but the Mavericks stretched their lead to 3-1 midway through and St. Charles would head into the third down by a pair of goals.
The Chill turned on the offense in the first few minutes of the final period. Defenseman Nick Schneider skated down the right side and blasted a shot past Mavs goalie Shane Owen to cut the deficit to 3-2 and less than two minutes later Fox would set up Martin Hlinka in the high slot who snapped the shot in to tie the game at 3-3. The Chill appeared to have taken the lead when a shot was blasted past Owen for a goal but the puck bounced off the back bar and immediately out going unseen by the officials (plays are not up for video review in the CHL). Missouri took advantage of the break minutes later on the second goal of the night from Eric Castonguay to take a 4-3 lead and despite a final push from the Chill, would hold on to win by that score.
St. Charles is back on the ice Saturday night at 7:05 on Pay What You Can Night with a family-oriented Mardi Gras Party. For more information on the Chill, or for group tickets, call 636.724.SHOT (7468) or visit www.stcharleschill.com .
