Kansas City Mavericks News Release

TULSA, Okla. - The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Tulsa Oilers, 4-2, Tuesday night at BOK Center. Andrew Courtney scored two goals including the game winner, and Ed McGrane and Sebastien Thinel each recorded three assists as the Mavericks (30-19-5) won their 30th game of the season. Goaltender Charlie Effinger stopped 32 of 34 shots for his 25th win of the season and the Mavericks remained in third place in the Central Hockey League's (CHL) Turner Conference.

"Great team win; special teams were strong on both ends of the ice," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "Effinger was solid in net, Courtney came up big with two goals and Cole Ruwe was the unsung hero who battled hard for the team. It was a very solid team effort on the road."

After a scoreless first period, the Oilers took a 1-0 lead at the 3:09 mark of the second period. The lead only lasted 34 seconds as Kris Hogg extended his point streak to five games and scored his fourth goal in his past five games to tie the game 1-1. Dave Pszenyczny gave the Mavericks the lead on a power play goal at 8:14 when his slap shot from just above the slot beat Oilers' netminder Steve Christie. The Mavericks did not relinquish the lead thereafter.

Courtney gave the Mavericks a 3-1 lead at the 7:12 mark of the third period and it turned out to be the game-winning goal. He then scored just 1:41 later to give Missouri a three-goal lead. Thinel and McGrane each assisted on the Mavericks' final three goals to lead all scorers in the game. Mike Ullrich scored for the Oilers at the 9:13 mark of the third period to cut the Mavericks' lead to 4-2, but that was as close as the home team got.

The Mavericks killed all four of the Oilers penalties and Missouri finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Missouri improved 17-8-2 on the road this season, and the Mavericks rank second in the CHL with 17 road wins.
