February 28, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Riding the rising tidal wave of a league season's best 10-game winning streak, the CHL league-leading Evansville IceMen are realizing some special recognition for their remarkable accomplishments.

On this date, the Central Hockey League, in conjunction with the IceMen, has announced that PIER-OLIVIER PELLETIER has been heralded the OAKLEY / CHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK for the week of February 20th to February 26th.

PELLETIER, 24, may be enjoying his best season ever in this his fourth pro campaign and his first clad in the Evansville code of colors. The former second round selection of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft was at his zenith the past week in backstopping his team to a pair of momentous triumphs in his team's magical sweep of 4-games in 5-days. The Quebec native assembled a perfect 2(2-0-0) record, surrendering a mere 2-GA while repelling 68 of 70-shots combined for his two appearances.

In his initial start of the week, February 22nd, the IceMen goaltending ace brushed aside 35 of 37-shots in spearheading Evansville's 5-2 victory verdict over the Arizona Sun Dogs. Then on the past Saturday night, before an Evansville pro hockey record-breaking, history-making sellout crowd of 9,487 at the Ford Center, Pelletier appear to be sprouting rubber limbs on demand in flashing his leather larceny to the tune of his second shutout of the season, 33-saves and a 3-0 victory over principal archrival Fort Wayne. For his latter enormous performance, he was hailed as the game's #1 Star. Both of Pelletier's shutouts this season have come at the expense of the Komets with the previous one being achieved on the season's opening night back on October 22nd when he rebuked 29-shots in an IceMen 5-0 domination of the Fort Wayners.

For his week's star-studded work, Pelletier posted a frugal GAA of 1.00 and SPCT of a scintillating .971. The 6-2, 194lb human puck barricade is currently enjoying a personal 5-game win streak in which he has allowed only 8-GA for a GAA of 1.60 For the season, he has elevated his overall record to 24(13-9-2), ranking 9th in the CHL with a GAA of an evaporating 2.60. His .923 SPCT ranks fifth best in the loop.

It's the third time this season that the IceMen have earned Goaltender of the Week honors. Previously, rookie phenom Bryan Gillis captured similar awards, being named CHL Goaltender of the Week two times in three weeks in January; the week of January 2nd - January 8th and January 16th - January 22nd.
