Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDAGLO, Texas- The Rio Grande Killer Bees (23-25-7) had to close a few deficits against the Laredo Bucks (22-30-1). First, it was overcoming an early Laredo goal then it was closing to within one point of the Tulsa Oliers for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference with a 4-1 win Tuesday night at the State Farm Arena.

Aaron Lee scored twice in the win giving him 27 on the season, a new career high for the winger. Brady Leavold also had two points in the win.

Laredo jumped ahead early in the first period when David Inman fired a puck from the right circle that beat a screened Wylie Rodgers. Despite the goal the Bees controlled the play for most of the period, outshooting the Bucks 13-7, but Laredo goaltender Ryan Rondeau was particularly strong in net.

Despite Rondeau's strong performance he was not able to stop everything, and the Bees capitalized.

Lee was able to tie the game for the Bees early in the second period while on the power play, potting a loose puck in front of the net. It was a strong net front presence once again that provided the go-ahead goal shortly after when Klempa forced one passed Rondeau to put the Bees up 2-1 late in the third.

Reid Edmondson and Lee both scored shortly after to pad the lead and insure the win.

The win was a major one in the standings. With the Tulsa Oliers losing to Missouri the Bees are within one point of the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference. Tulsa has two games in hand.

The Bees will look to close the gap Friday night against the Texas Brahmas Friday night in North Richland Hills.
