
Matthews, Garrett Earn Dragons Monthly Honors

DAYTON, OHIO-Outfielder Jon Matthews and left-handed starting pitcher Amir Garrett have been selected as the Dayton Dragons Batter and Pitcher of the Month for June.
The winning players will be honored during an inning break of the Dragons game tonight at Fifth Third Field vs. the South Bend Silver Hawks. There will also be a Player of the Month luncheon tomorrow, Thursday, July 10th, at Frisch's, 8181 Springboro Pike in Miamisburg, at 12:00 noon. Fans may attend to ask questions to the winning players and receive autographs. The players will be available to the media for interviews.
Matthews batted .373 in June with two doubles, one triple, one home run, 10 runs batted in, 13 runs scored, with a slugging percentage of .467 and an on-base percentage of .434 in 21 games.
Garrett posted a record of 2-0 in June with a 2.70 earned run average in five starts. In 26.2 innings, he allowed 19 hits with 4 walks and 24 strikeouts.
Other nominees for the Dragons Batter of the Month for June were Phillip Ervin and Tanner Rahier. Other Pitcher of the Month nominees were Dan Langfield and Joel Bender.
The Dragons host South Bend tonight (7:00 p.m.) and tomorrow (7:05 p.m.) at Fifth Third Field.
