EASTLAKE, OH - The Lake County Captains (10-9, 37-52) scored all of their runs on home runs to pick up a 4-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (10-9, 42-46) on Wednesday afternoon at Classic Park.
Lansing outhit Lake County 11-7, but stranded nine runners on base and five in scoring position.
Former Michigan State Spartan Torsten Boss hit a solo home run to center field to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning off of Jeremy Gabryszwski (Loss, 6-3).
Lansing had tied the game with a three-run rally in the seventh on a two-run double by Dickie Joe Thon and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mitch Nay.
Lake County first baseman Nellie Rodriguez clubbed a two-run home run in the first inning and second baseman Claudio Bautista hit a solo shot in the third to score the early runs for the Captains.
Gabryszwski tossed seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Reliever Justin Brantley (Blown Save, 1)(Win 2-0) allowed an inherited runner to score, but did not surrender a hit in his two innings of work. Trevor Frank (Save, 7) had two strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning.
Lake County starter Jordan Milbrath worked around nine hits, pitching six scoreless frames with a walk and three strikeouts while stranding seven Lansing base runners in his first four innings.
Lansing first baseman Matt Dean went 3-for-4 on the day, while Nay finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The Lugnuts and Captains play the rubber match of the three-game series on Thursday night at Classic Park. Lefty Shane Dawson (2-4, 3.15) starts on the mound for Lansing, with right-hander Caleb Hamrick (2-4, 6.83) pitching for Lake County.
