Castillo Homers in Return as Chiefs Win 4-3

PEORIA, IL- Ronald Castillo homered in his return from the disabled list to help give the Peoria Chiefs a 4-3 win over the Clinton LumberKings on Wednesday night. The Chiefs are 12-7 in the second half and 49-39 overall.

The LumberKings scored a run in the first inning without a hit against Chiefs starter Alex Reyes. Aaron Barbosa led off with a walk and stole both second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

The Chiefs tied the game at one in the second inning against LumberKings starter Carlos Misell. With two outs Castillo lined a double in the right-center field gap and scored on Michael Schulze's single. Peoria took the lead with a run in the third. CJ McElroy Jr. drew a one-out walk and stole second. With two away, Carson Kelly lined a single to right to score McElroy and give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.

Clinton tied the game at two in the fourth on an unearned run. Chantz Mack began the inning by reaching third base when Chiefs center fielder Vaughn Bryan misplayed a line drive for an error. With two outs, Martin Peguero singled up the middle to plate Mack.

The Chiefs reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Castillo led off with a home run to left to make the score 3-2. Clinton tied the game again in the fifth as Christian Carmichael led off the inning with a triple over Castillo's head in right. Luis Caballero followed with a sacrifice fly to center to knot the game at three.

The Chiefs took the lead for good in the eighth against LumberKings reliever Paul Fry. Kelly led off with a single and advanced to second on Steve Bean's sac bunt. Castillo was walked intentionally and Schulze lined a single to center to score Kelly and give the Chiefs a 4-3 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Reyes pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Jhonny Polanco went the next 2 1/3 scoreless innings allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts. Steve Sabatino (5-1) tossed two perfect innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.
