Matt Caruana Traded to Reading

The Gwinnett Gladiators have traded forward Matt Caruana to the Reading Royals in exchange for future considerations.

Caruana split time between the Gladiators and the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League last year. Caruana earned 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 32 games with Gwinnett. He also earned two call ups to Portland last year and earned nine points (three goals, six assists) in 36 AHL games.

In his first full professional season in 2008-09, Caruana appeared in 18 games with Bakersfield and recorded 14 points (10 goals, four assists). He collected 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 41 games with the Iowa Chops of the AHL.

The Orono, Ontario, native had one assist in five games with AHL Portland following his final collegiate season at Niagara University in 2007-08. In four years at Niagara, Caruana earned 129 points (51 goals, 78 assists) in 146 career collegiate games.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
