Anchorage, AK; September 16, 2010 - The Alaska Aces have signed defenseman, Alex Dzielski and forward, Ethan Cox and for the 2010-2011 season, Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Thursday. Both players will be entering their first pro season, beginning in October. The Aces preseason "Purple with Purpose" games are set to take place on October 5th and 6th when Alaska hosts the Stockton Thunder. Tickets for the games go on sale to the general public at Saturday's 1st Annual Aces Sidewalk Sale. Pre-ordered tickets will be available for pickup as well. Dzielski, 21, brings youth and size to Alaska's blue line. Standing 6'2" and weighing 221 lbs., the Pittsford, NY native joins the Aces after three seasons in the OHL. Last season, Dzielski played in 67 games for the Oshawa Generals, posting career highs in games, assists, points, and penalty minutes. Prior to that, Dzielski played two seasons with the Kitchener Rangers. In 2008, he helped lead the Rangers to the OHL Championship, and the Finals of the Memorial Cup. The blue liner had a career-best, six goals that year. Following his time in Oshawa last season, Dzielski played in six games as an amateur for the Elmira Jackals.
Cox, 23, enters the pro ranks after a four-year collegiate career at Colgate University. The two-way forward had 41 points (17g, 24a) in his time at Colgate. Last season Cox served co-captain of the squad as a senior. He was a picture of durability throughout college, not missing a single game in his last three seasons. Overall, the Richmond, British Columbia native played in 150 games for Colgate, finishing 7th on the all-time list. He also left an indelible mark with his strong play in his own zone. In his junior and senior year, Cox won Colgate's Best Defensive Player Award. The Aces now have 15 players under contract for the 2010-2011 season, with ten forwards, three defensemen, and two goaltenders.
The Alaska Aces are currently in preparation for their 16th professional season of hockey. The 2010-2011 regular season begins on October 15th at the Sullivan Arena.
