
Matt Brash Named League Pitcher of the Week

Arkansas Travelers pitcher Matt Brash has been selected as the Double-A Central Pitcher of the Week for August 16-22 it was announced today by Minor League Baseball. Brash pitched a complete game one hit shutout in the opening game of a doubleheader last Thursday (August 19) against the Frisco RoughRiders.
Throwing all seven innings, Brash did not allow a hit until two outs remained in the game. He issued only two walks, matched a career high with 11 strikeouts and retired 18 consecutive Frisco batters at one point in the game. It was the fourth complete game of the season by a Travs pitcher, a league high. His next scheduled start is Thursday August 26 at home vs. Corpus Christi. Brash joins pitchers Penn Murfee, Ian McKinney and infielder Jake Scheiner as league weekly award winners for the Travelers in 2021.
In six starts since being promoted to Arkansas, Brash has a 2-1 record and a 1.91 ERA over 33 innings pitched. He has struck out 48 while walking 12 and allowing opponents to hit just .157. He opened the season with High-A Everett going 3-2 with a 2.55 ERA in 42.1 innings over 10 games with 62 strikeouts and 25 walks. The 23-year old Brash was acquired by the Mariners as the Player to be Named Later in a trade in September of 2020. Originially drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 4th round in 2019 out of Niagara University, he is a native of Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
The team's final homestand of the season opens tomorrow night as they will play 12 games at home over the next 13 days.
