Sacramento River Cats News Release

Round Rock, Texas - Led by third baseman Wyatt Mathisen's five RBIs and center fielder Bryce Johnson's go-ahead homer, the Sacramento River Cats (42-53) overcame an 8-0 deficit to win 10-8 at the Round Rock Express (50-45) on Wednesday.

The River Cats entered the sixth down eight when left fielder Willie Calhoun lined a solo shot against his former team to get Sacramento on the board.

Mathisen, a Corpus Christi, Texas product, made things interesting when he followed up two walks with a three-run blast to left field in the seventh.

Down 8-4 with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth, Mathisen singled home two before Johnson lined a 1-0 cutter 418 feet for the River Cats' first lead.

Right fielder Austin Dean, who extended his season-high hitting streak to eight with a single in the third, provided breathing room in the ninth when he doubled home a run. The Spring, Texas native is 13-for-30 (.433) with four runs, three doubles, and a 1.061 OPS since July 7, with all eight RBIs coming with two outs.

An unsung hero in the comeback was the lockdown effort by the Sacramento bullpen.

Following eight combined earned runs by right-hander Bryan Brickhouse and left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus in 2.2 innings, six River Cats relievers, righty Norwith Gudino, lefty Ben Bowden, righty Cody Carroll, righty R.J. Dabovich (2-0), lefty Aaron Fletcher, and righty Shelby Miller, combined to allow two hits and seven walks over the final 6.1 innings to make the comeback possible.

The River Cats have yet to name who will open their bullpen game on Thursday. The TBD will face righty Kohei Arihara (3-5, 5.40) at 5:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

First baseman Jason Krizan had his 12-game hitting streak and 19-game on-base streak snapped with an 0-for-5 day.

Rehabbing catcher Curt Casali caught 5.0 innings, going 0-for-3 at the plate in his first game since hitting the injured list on July 5 with a right oblique strain.
