St Louis CITY2 extended their unbeaten streak to twelve matches with a 5-4 shootout victory over Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday night at Energizer Park. After competitive back and forth play, Miguel Perez started scoring for CITY2 in first half stoppage time, tallying his sixth goal of the season off an assist from Emil Jääskeläinen. Colorado responded with two goals to take the 2-1 lead in the second half, but Mykhi Joyner leveled the match in the 81st minute, scoring from the penalty spot. After regulation, the match went into a penalty shootout as Christian Olivares made a crucial save, and Brendan McSorley buried the game winning penalty kick to give CITY2 the two extra points. With the win, CITY2 maintains a firm grip atop the MLS NEXT Pro overall standings with 48 points. St Louis CITY2 faces North Texas SC for the final time this season next Saturday, August 16 at 7:45 p.m. CT at Choctaw Stadium.
