Tacoma Defiance (0-0-1, 1 point) hosts its first match of the 2021 USL Championship season against San Diego Loyal SC (0-2-0, 0 points) on Thursday evening at Cheney Stadium. This marks the first of four meetings this season between the two sides this season, with the next matchup set for Tacoma on July 29.

Defiance opened the season on Sunday evening with a 1-1 road draw against LA Galaxy II. Tacoma defender Abdoulaye Cissoko converted a penalty kick at the death to even the score right before the final whistle.

San Diego previously traveled up to the Pacific Northwest on April 10 to play a pair of preseason scrimmages against Sounders FC at Lumen Field. The Rave Green captured two 1-0 wins, courtesy of game-winning goals from Seattle forward Will Bruin and Tacoma midfielder Juan Alvarez.
