Sacramento Republic FC News Release

The boys in Old Glory Red returned home for the first time during the 2021 USL Championship regular season and earned a 3-1 win over Las Vegas Lights FC on Wednesday night at Heart Health Park.

Dariusz Formella opened the scoring in the opening 45 minutes before Tucker Bone broke the 1-1 deadlock in the second half and Jaime Villarreal secured all three points by firing home the third.

Of all the many positives to look back on following the midweek win, these three take the cake from the clash at home against Lights FC.

Big Night for Formella

Dariusz Formella made his first start of the 2021 season and ended the night with a goal and an assist - earning his Man of the Match honors after the 3-1 win.

In the 13th minute, Shannon Gomez delivered a dangerous ball into the box that found Darek in front of net. The Polish playmaker calmly took a touch before steering the opening goal of the game into the back of the net.

Fast forward to the 72nd minute when Jaime Villarreal capped off the Indomitable Club's home opener with Republic FC's third goal, it was Darek who did all the work to gift Villarreal a tap-in goal. Formella drove towards the end line with possession before he weaved a pass through the heart of Light FC's defense to a wide-open Villarreal close to the penalty spot who struck his effort by the visiting goalkeeper.

Formella also finished the night with a team-high four scoring chances created and led SRFC in touches (68) and total passes (49).

Fullbacks a Force on Both Fronts

Whether it was on the offensive or defensive end of the pitch, both Shannon Gomez and Duke Lacroix made positive impacts on the match everywhere they went.

Gomez helped to set up his sides' opening strike by providing the assist to Dariusz Formella. The assist was Gomez's second this season and the defender also was credited with creating two scoring chances against Las Vegas. His passing accuracy of 92.7% was second-best on SRFC following Wednesday's result.

Lacroix was also a menace on both ends of the pitch. The defender who joined SRFC this offseason ended the night with three tackles, one clearance, three interceptions, helped to gain his side possession four times, took one shot and created one scoring chance.

Bone Bags Another Game-Winner

In just his second match as a member of the Indomitable Club, Tucker Bone has already scored two goals - both of which have been game-winners.

After scoring the lone goal in Sacramento's 1-0 win over LA Galaxy II on April 30, the Bone snagged his second in as many matches after connecting on a blistering strike in the 65th minute. The goal broke a 1-1 tie and lifted SRFC into the lead, a lead Mark Briggs' man would hold on to for the remainder of the fixture before building on with one more goal.

Bone's two shots on target were the most by a Sacramento player as was his successful passing accuracy, ending the evening with a 96.3%.
