Defender Hunter Ashworth Added to San Diego Loyal's 2021 Roster

San Diego, CA - San Diego Loyal SC (SD Loyal) announced today the acquisition of defender Hunter Ashworth, pending league and federation approval. Ashworth joins his teammates ahead of the 2021 season Home Opener on Saturday, May 29 against Las Vegas Lights FC.

"Hunter has come in and proven that he wants to be an SD Loyal player," said Landon Donovan, EVP of Soccer Operations and Manager. "He competes extremely hard every day and represents the values of our club. We are thrilled to have him join our team."

Ashworth, 23, joins SD Loyal after playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC alongside current SD Loyal defender, Thomas Vancaeyezeele. He made his USL Championship debut in July 2020 in a match against Louisville City. Prior to joining the league, he played college soccer at University of San Francisco and UC Santa Barbara and played overseas for the New Zealand national team at the U17, U20, and U23.

"I'm very proud to be a part of this club," said Ashworth. "Previously, from an outsider's perspective, it was a place any player would want to be.
