Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Saint Louis FC

Sacramento Republic FC (2-1-1, 7 pts) return to the friendly confines of Bonney Field when they face Saint Louis FC (1-2-2, 5 pts) on Saturday, Apr. 23. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PDT. Gates open at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on CW31 and Sports 1140 KHTK.

This will be the first ever meeting between Republic FC and Saint Louis FC and the first of two meetings between the two sides this season. Saint Louis FC played their first USL season in 2015 in the Eastern Conference.

Republic FC enter the match after falling 1-0 to Portland Timbers 2 on Sunday, Apr. 17. Prior to the loss on Sunday, Republic FC had gone unbeaten in their previous 10 USL regular season matches, tying a franchise record. The 10-match unbeaten streak dated back to Aug. 14, 2015.

During the unbeaten streak Republic FC went 5-0-5, outscoring their opponents 14-6 during the streak. Republic FC's defense was particularly strong, recording six shutouts and allowing more than one goal in a match just once.

Since taking over as the first goalkeeper on Sept. 6, 2015, Dominik Jakubek has been a key to Republic FC's success. Jakubek has started eight straight regular season matches, allowing just two goals and recording six shutouts. Jakubek and Republic FC lead the USL with three shutouts so far this season.

Saint Louis FC come into the match after playing Tulsa Roughnecks FC to a scoreless draw on Saturday, Apr. 16. Saint Louis FC has played four of their first five matches on the road to start the season.

Former Republic FC midfielder Chad Bond joined Saint Louis FC this season after spending the 2015 season with Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Bond has served as captain of Saint Louis FC for the first five matches of the season. He is tied for the club lead in assists with one. Bond has played against Republic FC twice starting and playing the full 90 minutes in both matches.

Forward Vince Cicciarelli leads the offense for Saint Louis FC. Cicciarelli has scored three goals this season in just 164 minutes played. He trails only Louisville City FC's Chandler Hoffman (4) and LA Galaxy II's Jack McBean (4) for the league lead in goals scored this season.
