Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA - City Islanders Football Club celebrated their 2016 home opener at FNB Field in front of 2,316 fans where they overcame a two goal deficit in the final minutes of play but were unable defeat Louisville City FC (4-1-0) in the final minutes of play.
Chandler Hoffman scored twice for Louisville City in the first half before the Islanders were able to break through with a goal by rookie Paul Wilson. Brett Jankouskas recorded the equalizer for City in the 88th minute. However, Louisville's Kaye struck back in the 90th minute to give the away team 3 points on the road.
Louisville's Chandler Hoffman opened up the scoring in the 21st minute after he was awarded a penalty kick when he was taken down by Cardel Benbow in the box. Immediately after the goal the Islanders showed a majority of possession, recording 9 shots by Bobby Warshaw, Craig Foster and Wilson.
Hoffman struck again just before half when Niall McCabe flicked a header behind the City backline and Hoffman was able to finish past Nick Noble, giving Louisville a two goal lead.
Despite Louisville's early lead, the Islanders finally broke through in the 45th minute when Wilson found the back of the net inside the box to make the score 2-1 at the stroke of halftime.
The second half provided the City islanders with endless chances as they kept pressure on the Louisville defense. The best chance came off a cross from Benbow that Jose Barril was able to collect at the top of the box before ripping a shot over the cross bar.
The Islanders were finally able to find an equalizer in the 88th minute when Jankouskas buried a cross from Barril. A defensive breakdown lead to the Kaye's goal which ultimately proved to be the game winner for Louisville City.
The Islanders will return to FNB Field for their next match this Monday, April 25 when they face Orlando City FC for the second and final time this USL regular season. Fans who bring their tickets from tonight's match will receive 50% admission on Monday.
