Orlando City B News Release
PITTSBURGH, Penn. - Orlando City B (1-3-1, 4 points) earned its first win of the season on Friday night, downing host Pittsburgh Riverhounds (0-2-1, 1 point) 2-1 behind a brace from defender Tyler Turner at Highmark Stadium.
"I'm just delighted for the players; they've worked really hard, and nobody's been more disappointed with recent results than myself. We've struggled to score, but tonight it all came together and obviously the result was the icing on the cake," OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis said following the win. "I thought there were some outstanding individual performances and collective ones as a group. I'm really pleased. We came on this trip for six points. That's three and hopefully we can have another performance like that Monday at Harrisburg."
Turner, who is on a season-long loan from the Club's MLS team, added goals on both sides of the half by first breaking through in the 39th minute with a fantastic individual effort that saw him beat three defenders for the goal. Carrying the ball on the right side, Turner made a quick move inside on his first opponent, before splitting two on the backline and slotting the ball inside the far post to put City up 1-0.
Then, Turner capitalized on a cross from University of Central Florida forward Hadji Barry after Barry sent a ball in from the right side allowing Turner to bury it on the left. The Guinean player is also on a season-long loan from the Club's MLS side.
Lions goalkeeper Mark Ridgers, who has had a tremendous season thus far, finished the match with three saves, picking up a well-deserved win. The Riverhounds goal came after a late penalty kick was awarded, with Romeo Parkes barely beating the outstretched reach of Ridgers on the 92nd minute kick from the spot.
In addition, Turner was named to the 2015 Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game by U.S. Men's National Team legend, Landon Donovan, after featuring in seven Major League Soccer matches with Orlando City last season. Throughout the year, the right back also represented his home nation on the international stage, receiving caps to the USMNT U-20 and U-23 sides, including appearances in the prestigious U-20 competition, the Marbella Tournament.
