Match Preview: Republic FC Wrap up Tour of PNW against Seattle on Sunday
May 5, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC complete their two-match Pacific Northwest road trip with a visit to Seattle to play Sounders FC 2 on Sunday, May 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV 58.3 and ESPN+.
Sunday's match will be the second of three meetings between Sacramento and Seattle in the 2018 USL regular season. Republic FC came away with a 1-0 victory at home against S2 on April 7th in a match that featured three red cards and a penalty kick goal from Adam Moffat. Republic FC has dominated the all-time series with S2, as they hold an 8-1-1 record with a 19-8 advantage on goals against Sounders FC's USL affiliate. Sacramento has not lost to Seattle since their first-ever meeting in 2015.
Republic FC enter the match after suffering their first defeat of the season on Wednesday in a 2-0 loss at Portland Timbers FC 2. Sacramento now stands at a 4-1-3 record on the season, good for second place in the Western Conference going into the weekend.
The club will look to resume their winning ways against Seattle and to get back on the score sheet. Forward Cameron Iwasa leads the team with three goals and two assists, while midfielder Villyan Bijev has recorded a goal and two assists to go with his team-high 21 shots.
S2 come into the match following a scoreless draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday. Seattle has struggled in the early stages of the season, currently posting a 2-4-1 record with a -4 goal differential. The home side is led by Head Coach John Hutchinson, a veteran of the A-League in Australia during his playing days. On the pitch, S2 is captained by Ray Saari, although he will miss Sunday's match against Sacramento after picking up a red card against Switchbacks FC last weekend. Felix Chenkam and David Estrada lead the team in goals with three apiece. Estrada made 18 appearances and scored three goals for Republic FC in 2015.
Republic FC will host two official watch parties Chando's Cantina (Downtown) and Craft Beer Vault (Rocklin). Updates of the match will be provided via Twitter at @SacRepublicFC and by following #SEAvSAC.
