Saint Louis FC News Release
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saint Louis FC drew 0-0 against Portland Timbers 2 in front of 4,039 fans at Toyota Stadium in Match 8 of the USL regular season.
Saint Louis FC extended their franchise-record undefeated streak to six games and remain undefeated at home. The draw moves STLFC to 13 points in the USL Western Conference as they prepare to play their next four games on the road, starting against LA Galaxy II on Wednesday, May 9th at 9:30 p.m. CT.
The first half started evenly with both teams frustrated when looking to break down the defense. STLFC created the first clear chance when Joey Calistri cut inside from the left but his shot went wide in the 21st minute. Portland Timbers 2 responded with a good chance to break the deadlock from a free kick in the 32nd minute but Modou Jadama headed his effort over the bar. STLFC leading-scorer Kyle Greig looked the most likely to open the scoring for the home team but his effort went narrowly wide just before the halftime break.
The second half was more open and STLFC pressed to create a number of chances with Kadeem Dacres taking a good shot that went over the crossbar in the 52nd minute. STLFC appeared to open the scoring in the 66th minute from a corner kick but Greig's bullet header was disallowed as he was adjudged to be offside. Both teams made substitutions to change the game but they would have to settle for a point as they finished level at the final whistle.
"I'm disappointed we could not get the win but there are positives to take," said STLFC Head Coach Anthony Pulis. "I'm happy to get the clean sheet, we played solid defensively, created chances, and we were able to keep the [undefeated] streak alive which is nice."
