Charleston Battery game notes
ATL UTD 2 returns to action Friday when it hosts Charleston Battery at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The match marks the fifth meeting between both sides with the Battery holding a slight edge with a record of 2-1-1.
Atlanta is coming off a 2-1 loss to Loudoun United last Friday at Audi Field. Loudoun took a 2-0 lead after substitute Christian Sorto scored a pair of second half goals. ATL UTD 2 pulled one goal back in the 86th minute through Guillermo BenÃ-tez when he scored his first professional goal. However, Atlanta's rally fell short as it could not find the equalizer in the final minutes.
Charleston travels to Kennesaw after a 1-1 draw with New York Red Bulls II last Saturday, June 29 at MUSC Health Stadium. Despite Tah Anunga receiving a straight-red card just before the halftime whistle, Nicque Daley handed Charleston the lead in the 54th minute on a breakaway. Mathias Jørgensen later leveled the match for New York when he buried a close-range shot in the box in the 80th minute. Charleston enters Friday's match with a 1-4-2 record on the road this season.
