Preview: Boys in Green Seek Revenge as They Gear up for Memphis

Hartford Athletic will look to break out of a recent slump when it hits the road to take on Memphis 901 FC on Saturday night. This will be Hartford's final contest before its first match at Dillon Stadium next weekend! Here's what you need to know:

LAST TIME OUT:

Hartford dropped its final match at Rentschler field last Friday night, falling 3-0 to Bethlehem Steel FC. Faris Pemi Moumbagna snagged Bethlehem's first in the 17th minute, latching onto a beautiful defense-splitting through ball and rolling his shot past a diving Frederik Due. Faris was also involved in Steel FC's second goal; the young forward's deflected byline cross reached the feet of teammate Issa Rayyan, who blasted it in from point-blank range. The boys in green started to grow into the match at the end of the first half and controlled proceedings for most of the second, but visiting goalkeeper Tomás Romero was never really troubled and the breakthrough never came. Bethlehem fullback Wálter Cortés then put the finishing touches on the visitors' triumph in second-half stoppage time, fielding a brilliant route-one ball and slicing it into the right side-netting.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Hartford Athletic - Danny Barrera, MF

Barrera signed for Hartford Athletic on June 12, and he has already made his presence known. While the 29-year old has yet to record a goal or assist for his new club, he has shown off his creative abilities, creating 7 chances and recording 7 key passes in just 3 appearances. If Barrera can thread accurate forward balls through the Memphis back line, the boys in green will be far more dangerous and incisive in possession.

Memphis 901 FC - Cameron Lindley, MF

Lindley is one of Memphis' most influential players in possession, largely impacting the game with his passing. The center-midfielder moves the ball accurately and effectively, as evidenced by his 81.1% pass completion and 66.7% long pass accuracy rates (2ndand 4thon the team, respectively). He has also had a direct impact on the scoresheet for Memphis this season, bagging a goal and dishing out an assist. Hartford must apply heavy defensive pressure whenever Lindley touches the ball; if the midfield general establishes a rhythm, Memphis' attack will be very difficult to stop.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT:

Memphis 901 FC occupies 17thplace in the Eastern Conference standings with 11 points, holding a slim, one-point advantage over Hartford. Coach Tim Mulqueen's side is in the midst of a major cold spell, losing 3 of its last 4 matches and failing to win any of its last 4 league games. However, 2 of Memphis' last 3 victories have come against Hartford; the boys from the "Grind City" earned a 2-1 victory at Rentschler Field on May 10 and took care of business in the U.S. Open Cup just 19 days later, winning in controlling, 4-0 fashion.
