Memphis 901 FC Returns Home Tomorrow
July 5, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Memphis 901 FC News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis 901 FC returns to AutoZone Park tomorrow night at 7:30 to host Hartford Athletic in a USL Championship Eastern Conference match.
This begins a month of July that sees the Boys in Blue play in front of the hometown supporters in four-of-five matches.
901 FC (2-8-5, 11 pts) is coming off a 1-0 loss at Charlotte Independence last Saturday in a match that was scoreless until the 74th minute. Lagos Kunga and Elliot Collier finished the game with three shots, one on-target, apiece for Memphis. Adam Najem was accurate with nearly 83 percent of his passes in the midfield, and Josh Morton had eight clearances in the back line.
Saturday's match marks the third time Memphis 901 FC and Hartford Athletic (2-11-4, 10 pts) have matched up in the last eight weeks, with Memphis winning 2-1 in USL Championship action in Hartford on May 10 and 4-0 on May 29 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Memphis got goals from Duane Muckette and Collier in the May 10 match in Hartford, which was the team's second USL Championship win of the season, and the four goals on May 20 were scored by Marc Burch, Jochen Graf, Graf again, and Morgan Hackworth. The four goals in the Open Cup match are the most 901 FC has scored in a match this season and set up an historic Bluff City matchup with MLS side Orlando City FC in the fourth round of the Open Cup.
Forward Brandon Allen debuted for Memphis 901 FC in last Saturday's match. He started and played 72 minutes before being subbed and had two shots, one on-target. Allen, the 2016 USL Rookie of the Year and All-League First Team member, arrived from Tampa Bay Rowdies on June 26.
With three points tomorrow, coupled with favorable results ahead of it in the table, Memphis 901 FC could jump three spots in the league standings. Currently, just six points separate the 12th-18th teams in the standings. After Saturday, 901 FC's four remaining matches in July come against the 8th-place team (Charleston Battery), the team in 5th (Nashville SC), the team in 3rd (New York Red Bulls II), and the 6th-place team (Ottawa Fury FC).
On Monday, Memphis 901 FC loaned midfielder Louis Bennett and forward Oliver White to Forward Madison FC of USL League One. The loans are season long.
Following tomorrow's match against Hartford Athletic, 901 FC hits the road for one contest, next Saturday, July 13, at Charleston Battery, before playing three-straight at AutoZone Park on July 17, July 20, and July 27.
