Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - A three-run home run by David Masters helped the Potomac Nationals (48-55/18-18) battle back from an early deficit en route to a 5-4 win over the Frederick Keys (11-23/40-63) on Friday night at Nymeo Field. It is the Keys second loss in the last three games when leading after seven innings.

With the Keys ahead 3-2 in the eighth, the P-Nats took the lead for good. Jakson Reetz singled with one out off Tyler Joyner and Aldrem Corredor followed with a double to put men at second and third base. That sent up Masters, who slugged his 11th home run of the season to leftfield.

Tim Naughton worked a scoreless top of the ninth, striking out two, while the Keys rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jhonatan German walked Will Robertson to open the inning, before Brett Cumberland came on as a pinch hitter. He stroked a double down the right field line to move the tying run into scoring position. German then plunked Cole Billingsley to load the bases.

Sean Miller made it a one-run game on a fielder's choice to the left side of the infield, but Robert Neustrom lined out to right and Jomar Reyes was retired on a terrific catch by Gage Canning down the right field line. On the play, Canning caught the ball in foul territory then went over the short wall, but held onto the baseball.

The Keys used two home runs off Nick Raquet to grab a 3-0 lead after four innings. Robertson hit an opposite field shot to right in the second, while Patrick Dorrian added a two-run blast in the fourth. That would be the only two mistakes against Raquet (7-8) who earned the win tossing seven innings of three-run baseball. He walked two and struck out four.

Frederick starter, DL Hall, posted his first quality start of the year, working six innings and allowing two runs (one earned) in a no-decision. Both Potomac runs against Hall came in the sixth. A double by Corredor plated the first run, while he moved to third on an error by Daniel Fajardo. KJ Harrison then hit a groundball to the right side to score Corredor.

Joyner (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in two innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. German picked up his sixth save despite allowing a run in the ninth. He walked one.

The Keys and Nationals play the middle game of their series on Saturday night against the Nationals. Right-hander Ofelky Peralta (0-0, 6.17) starts for the Keys against Nationals left-hander Tim Cate (2-3, 4.06).
