Mason McTavish Scores First Period Hat Trick in Win over IceDogs

(Peterborough, ON) - Mason McTavish recorded a hat trick and two assists and Semyon Der-Arguchintsev four helpers in a 7-3 New Year's Eve win over the Niagara IceDogs in St. Catharines on Tueday night. The Petes end 2019 in first place in the Ontario Hockey League with a 25-8-2-1 record.

McTavish (22, 23, 24) scored three times while J.R. Avon (2), Cameron Butler (11), and Zach Gallant (19) also tallied in a 6-goal first period. Gallant (20) added another in the third frame to secure the win.

Der-Arguchintsev recorded four assists for the second time this season, and Declan Chisholm had three helpers. McTavish added two assists with Gallant, Tucker Robertson, Jacob Paquette, and Max Grondin getting singles.

Tye Austin made 22 saves in his fourth win of the season.

Final shots were 35-25 in favour of the Petes. Peterborough's sixth ranked power play was 1/1 and their third ranked penalty kill was 6/7.

The Petes will practice Wednesday before hosting the Erie Otters on Thursday, January 2 at 7:05pm.
