Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs who are currently 7th in the Eastern Conference were looking to collect some points against the 3rd place Peterborough Petes. With both teams coming off recent losses, the IceDogs were looking to take advantage of being on home ice.
Goaltender Josh Rosenzweig started in net for the Niagara IceDogs. Tonight's game was Rosenzweig's debut in the OHL. Christian Sbaraglia was initially going to get the start, but an injury in warmups took him out of the game. Despite backing up on the bench, he could only be used in an emergency situation. The Petes kicked off the scoring 52 seconds into this contest. Rosenzweig answered back with a couple of big saves so keep the score within one. Mason Howard made a statement in the defensive end by throwing some big hits. The IceDogs capitalized on a power play opportunity to tie the game up at 1. Ivan Lodnia dished off to Phil Tomasino who one touched the puck over to Oliver Castleman for the tap in. Petes took over the rest of the first period to end the period leading 6-1.
After a pressure filled first period, Rosenzweig settled in and began making the big saves he's known for. The consistent pursuit of the puck and speed by De Simone, Sims and Snow had them all over the ice led to the IceDogs second goal. De Simone was the goal scorer off a centering pass from rookie centerman Snow. The final minute of the period was all Rosenzweig as he made 3 massive saves to end the middle frame stopping all 9 shots that the Petes sent his way.
Midway through the final frame the Petes extended their lead to 7-2, but Jake Uberti answered back in under two minutes. Uberti's net front presence led to a goal off of Giancarlo Chanton's shot from the point.
In the second and third period, Rosenzweig saved 18 of 19 shots. The IceDogs ultimately fell 7-3 to the Peterborough Petes and hope to bounce back in the New Year.
