
Martinez gets call to the Majors

For the second time in less than a week, a former Sea Dogs player has received the call to the big leagues. Anastacio Martinez was recalled today by the Boston Red Sox. Martinez takes the roster spot of Scott Williamson who was placed on the disabled list. Martinez becomes the 100th Sea Dog to appear in the Major Leagues.
Ryan Cameron was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket to replace the roster spot vacated by Martinez. Abe Alvarez was transferred off the Single-A Lowell roster and back to Double-A Portland.
Martinez appeared in 34 games for the Sea Dogs last season.where he complied a 3-1 record with 14 saves and a 2.25 ERA. Martinez was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 22, 2003 for Scott Sauerbaeck and Mike Gonzalez. On July 31, 2003 Martinez was traded back to the Red Sox for Freddy Sanchez, the same trade that brought Jeff Suppan to the Red Sox. Martinez was assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket after the trade. Martinez in 15 games in Pawtucket this season is 1-2 with a 2.55 ERA.
On Saturday, Kevin Youkilis, made his Major League debut and homered for his first Major League hit.
