
Martin, Grizzlies Hold off Aces 5-4 Saturday

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - Colin Martin had a hat trick, and Mathieu Aubin scored the game-winning goal in the third period, as the Utah Grizzlies knocked off the Alaska Aces 5-4 Saturday at the Maverik Center.
The win gave Utah wins in two of the three games this week against Alaska and pulled the Grizzlies to within 3 points of the fourth-place Aces.
After Jon Puskar and Martin gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead in the first period, the Aces answered with Pavel Laplante's seventh goal of the season. Tyler Shattock got an assist, as did rookie defenseman Chase Van Allen, playing in his first professional game.
Shots after one favored Utah 9-7.
Martin scored again early in the second period to give Utah a 3-1 lead, then the Aces began their ascent.
At 9:49, Nolan Descoteaux let go of a slap shot from just inside the blueline that beat Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher. Tim Coffman and Steve Tarasuk assisted on the power play goal.
Then it was Danny Moynihan at 11:29, moving to his left and shooting back to his right in the slot. Laplante and Stephen Perfetto got helpers, and the game was tied at 3.
Martin completed his hat trick at 15:37of the second period, and the Grizzlies skated off with a 4-3 lead after two.
Shot were 23-15 Utah.
The Aces would tie the game one more time. On the power play atr 6:02, Descoteaux took a centering pass in the slot from Coffman and buried the puck once again to make it 4-4.
The game winner from Aubin came at 9:08. The Aces pressed the issue, but a late penalty hampered the effort.
Final shots were 28-24 Grizzlies.
Alaska was 2-5 on the power play, Utah 1-3.
The Aces now move on to Loveland, Colorado for a game this Wednesday against the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center.
