Oilers Hold off Late Thunder Rally
March 5, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS- Louick Marcotte scored two goals in the third period in attempt to get Wichita back in the game, but Tulsa held on for a 3-2 victory on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Tulsa scored three times in the first 11 minutes of the game to take a 3-0 advantage. Danick Paquette recorded his 10th of the season at 4:46 to make it 1-0. At 9:41, Adam Pleskach increased the lead to 2-0 as he got to a rebound after a missed shot took an Oilers bounce back to the crease. Darcy Murphy made it 3-0 at 10:52 for his 17th of the season and the Thunder quickly called their time-out. The Oilers took a three-goal cushion into the locker room.
After a scoreless second, Marcotte recorded his first at 1:42 of the third after he received a pass from Blake Tatchell and beat Colin Stevens to make it 3-1. He tallied his second with 18:56 as he carried into the zone on a two-on-one and juked out Stevens with a beautiful stickhandling move to make it 3-2. Tulsa didn't allow Wichita to control the puck in the last minute and held on for the 3-2 win.
Marcotte recorded his second multi-goal game of the season. Tatchell added an assist and has 10 points (4g, 6a) in his last nine games. Owsley suffers the loss, stopping 32 of 35 shots. Stevens earns the win, stopping 31 of 33 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play. Tulsa was 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
