March 5, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (31-25-4-0) earned a 3-2 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Saturday night. Forwards Jordan Sims and Seth Ambroz, along with defenseman Jonathan Diaby scored the goals for Cincinnati.
The Cyclones tallied the game's first goal 3:14 into the opening period when forward Shawn O'Donnell found Sims in front of the net, and he was able to pop it in past Adirondack netminder Drew Fielding to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.
That lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second Cincinnati wasted little time extending their lead when a shot from forward Justin MacDonald was tipped in by Ambroz in front of the net to put the Cyclones ahead, 2-0, 1:20 into the frame.
Cincinnati pushed that lead to 3-0 with three minutes to play while on the power play, when defenseman Jaynen Rissling sent a pass to Diaby who blasted a slapshot from the right circle off the post and in for his third goal of the season.
Cincinnati took their lead in to the locker room after 40 minutes, however Adirondack was not deterred and started to chip away at their deficit, netting a pair of power play goals from forwards Dennis Kravchenko and James Henry to pull the Thunder to within a goal, 3-2, with less than two minutes to play. Despite the comeback attempt, the Cyclones did not break and held on for the 3-2 win.
It was another stellar performance for Cyclones goaltender Joel Rumpel, who turned aside 51 of the 53 shots he faced to collect the win. Cincinnati was outshot, 53- 23 on the night, while the power play converted 20% of its chances. The Cyclones begin a six-game road trip on Friday in Idaho against the Steelheads. Face-off is scheduled for 9:10pm ET.
