Marte Delivers in B-Mets Walk-Off Win, 1-0

BINGHAMTON, NY - Jefry Marte ripped a single to right with the bases loaded to give Binghamton a 1-0 walk-off win over the Trenton Thunder Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. It was the B-Mets' second walk-off win of the season and first 1-0 victory since they defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the second game of a doubleheader on July 14, 2011.

Matt den Dekker set the table in the inning by doubling to left centerfield against reliever Preston Claiborne. The two-bagger extended his hitting streak to eleven games, the longest for any B-Met in 2012. Josh Rodriguez followed by bunting up the third base line and reached safely when Claiborne failed to handle the tough bouncer.

A walk to Reese Havens loaded the bases and set the stage for Marte. The B-Mets third baseman laced a 2-1 offering into right to secure Binghamton's fourth one-run victory of the season.

Marte's hit ended a game that had as a pitcher's duel. B-Mets starter Collin McHugh struck out six over seven scoreless innings, retiring the final nine Thunder he faced. He walked just one and allowed six hits. It was the longest scoreless start for McHugh since he tossed seven shutout frames as a Brooklyn Cyclone on August 8, 2009.

Brett Marshall was just as good for the Thunder. The 22-year-old matched McHugh with seven scoreless frames of his own, retiring 14 straight B-Mets at one point in the game. The righty surrendered just two hits and struck out two.

Brad Holt entered in relief in the eighth and worked around a two-out walk to post a scoreless frame. He worked around another two-out walk in a shutout ninth. Marte's single made Holt (1-0) the winner. Claiborne (1-2) suffered the loss.

The B-Mets (18-19) will look to take the rubber match on Thursday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Zack Wheeler takes the ball for the B-Mets against RHP Cory Arbiso. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
