Fisher Cats Belt 4 Homers in Doubleheader Split at New Britain

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Fisher Cats belted four solo home runs on Wednesday night, winning the first game of a doubleheader, 3-0, before dropping the finale, 6-3, with the New Britain Rock Cats. The Fisher Cats have homered in five straight games and will look to make it six straight in the rubber game finale of the series on Thursday morning.
The Fisher Cats struck early to give Brett Cecil (W; 1-2) run support in the first game of the twinbill. With one out in the second, John Tolisano tripled off the right field wall, scoring on the next pitch when Brian Jeroloman singled him home for a 1-0 lead.
Two innings later, Mark Sobolewski and Mike McDade went back-to-back off starting pitcher Steve Hirschfeld (L; 2-3) to make it a 3-0 game. For Sobolewski, the homer was his league-leading ninth, surpassing his 2011 total of eight with New Hampshire. McDade's fifth home run gave the Fisher Cats back-to-back bombs for the first time since August of 2011.
Cecil earned his first win of the season by hurling five shutout innings. The lefty allowed just three base runners - two hits, one walk - while striking out four. He turned the ball over to Aaron Loup (Save, 2), who worked two perfect innings for his second save of the year.
Jeroloman had his best game of the season in concert with Cecil. The backstop had his first multi-hit game while picking up his first RBI of the season. Tolisano and Sobolewski also joined Jeroloman in the multi-hit department.
In the nightcap, 2011 All-Star Joel Carreno (ND) made his return to the Fisher Cats, falling behind early due to a three-run homer in the second inning. He pitched three frames, leaving with four strikeouts.
Carreno was picked up by his offense, which scored three times in the fourth against starter Logan Darnell (W; 4-2). Ryan Goins began the frame with his second homer before Brad Glenn popped his fifth with two outs. A two-out double by Van Kirk plated a third run to tie game at 3-3.
It stayed 3-3 until the sixth when the Rock Cats scored three times against Danny Farquhar (L; 0-1). The first run scored on a throwing error by Farquhar. A wild pitch and a sac fly plated two more runs to cap the scoring at 6-3.
The truncated three-game series will come to an end with day baseball at 10:35 AM on Thursday morning. RHP Deck McGuire (1-5, 7.71) gets the ball for New Hampshire against Rock Cats RHP David Bromberg (1-0, 3.91).
