
Marquez Collects 15th Win For Thunder

(Manchester, NH)- Jeff Marquez allowed three runs over six innings to help Trenton to a 5-4 win over New Hampshire on Sunday night. The win was the 15th of the year for Marquez, giving him the 2nd most wins in a season by a Trenton pitcher behind Carl Pavano (16- 1996).
The win also means that the Thunder will have to wait at least one more day to find out their playoff opponent. New Hamsphire and Portland are tied for the Wild Card with one day remaining. If they stay tied after Monday, a one-game playoff will occur on Tuesday in Portland, ME.
Marquez (15-9) allowed four hits and struck out a season-best nine batters over his six innings. Trenton (82-59) gave him a 3-0 lead in the 2nd Inning thanks to an RBI single by RF Noah Hall and a two-run double from C P.J. Pilittere. New Hampshire (70-71) came back with two runs in the bottom half on RBI hits by 1B Rob Cosby and RF Ryan Patterson. The teams traded runs in the 5th Inning to make it a 4-3 lead for the Thunder. LF Colin Curtis had an RBI single, but Patterson responded with a solo homer for New Hampshire.
After Trenton took a 5-3 lead, the Fisher Cats got to within 5-4 on an RBI double by SS Sergio Santos, but David Robertson struck out DH David Smith to end the inning. Robertson had six strikouts in two innings of relief. Eric Wordekemper came on a worked a scoreless 9th Inning, including catching a pop-up to end the game, to earn his 1st Double-A save.
In the regular season finale, Trenton will send Tyler Clippard (1-1, 4.79) to the mound against New Hampshire's Ricky Romero (3-6, 4.79). Game time is 1:05 PM on Monday.
