Four-Run Fourth Leads To Win For Akron

The Binghamton Mets led early, but the Akron Aeros were able to pick up a 6-3 victory at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. The B-Mets have dropped six straight.

Binghamton (60-81) got on the board in the second. With two out, Edwards Guzman singled before Scott Lewis walked Caleb Stewart. J.E. Cruz followed with a base hit to right that scored Guzman for a 1-0 B-Mets lead.

However, Akron (80-60) took the lead for good in the third. Argenis Reyes led off the frame with a triple off Michael Devaney and scoring on an error. After Devaney (6-9) retired the next two hitters, Jordan Brown reached on an error before Michael Aubrey walked. Ryan Goleski's two-run triple drove in both for a 4-1 Aeros lead.

Brown would make it 6-1 Akron with a two-run homer in the fifth.

The B-Mets got a run in the bottom of the fifth when Caleb Stewart singled and later scored on Luis Rivera's base hit to left. Stewart drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, moved to third on Cruz's double and scored on Negron's single to right.

Akron's Randy Newsom tossed a scoreless ninth for his 18th save in 20 chances.

Monday, the Binghamton Mets wrap up the 2007 season with a game against the Akron Aeros. Bobby Parnell (5-5, 4.41) will start for the B-Mets against Bobby Brownlie (1-2, 3.12) of Akron. Game time is 1:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 12:50 on ESPN 1360 WYOS.

Notes: With one home game remaining, the B-Mets have drawn 226,443 to NYSEG Stadium, the second-highest attendance in team history. Only the inaugural 1992 club (259,183) drew more...the B-Mets are 2-12 against Akron this season...Binghamton's bullpen hasn't been scored upon in their last seven games (22 2/3 IP)...six of Akron's 11 hits were for extra bases.
