Shortslef Roughed Up In Final Start Of Season

ERIE- Erie starter Andrew Kown shut out the Curve for eight innings and the SeaWolves' offense finally came alive, as Erie pounded out 11 hits and won for the first time in the series, 7-0.
Kown was spectacular for the SeaWolves, shutting out the Curve for eight innings and allowing just three hits. Kown (6-8) walked just one and struck out four.
After Kown held the Curve scoreless in the first inning for the first time in the series, Erie took their first lead in the second. Jeff Larish led off the inning with a single off of Curve starter Josh Shortslef. Nick Trzesniak followed with a double, and Larish scored on a sacrifice fly from Matt Joyce.
Erie broke the game open with four runs in the third inning. Wilkin Ramirez and Nick McIntyre led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Clete Thomas followed with an attempted sacrifice bunt that Shortslef threw errantly attempting to cut down Ramirez at third base, loading the bases. Danny Worth followed with a bases-clearing triple and a 4-0 Erie lead. Worth scored to make it 5-0 on an ensuing Mike Hernandez sacrifice fly to center field.
Shortlsef surrendered a lone run in each of the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Thomas delivered an RBI single and in the sixth, Hernandez contributed his second sacrifice fly of the ballgame.
Shortlsef (5-13) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs --six earned -- over six innings. The left-hander, making his final start of the season, gave up 11 hits and struck out two.
The series will conclude on Monday at Jerry Uht Park. The two teams will play a doubleheader (If Necessary) beginning at 1:05 PM. RHP Yoslan Herrera (6-8, 4.58) will make his final start of the season for the Curve in game one against RHP Dallas Trahern (12-6, 3.87) for Erie. The starters for game two will be announced should the game become necessary.
