Marlies Sign Defenseman Joe Ryan to SPC

Jeff Jackson, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has signed defenceman Joe Ryan to a standard player's contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Ryan, 21, has appeared in 14 games with the Toronto Marlies this season collecting five points (one goal, four assists) and 13 penalty minutes. The 6'1, 204-pound defenceman registered his first career AHL point (assist) on January 31 versus Rockford. He scored his first career goal on February 11 against the Syracuse Crunch. Ryan was initially signed to a professional try-out contract by the Marlies on December 12, 2008.

Ryan was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second-round, 48th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The Marlies take on the Lake Erie Monsters - AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche - tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., and then head to Hamilton to play the Bulldogs - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. Toronto returns home on Sunday afternoon to host Grand Rapids at 4:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. Sunday's game will air live on Rogers TV Cable 10 in Toronto and 63 in Scarborough.
