Marlies Meet Moose in Manitoba

March 30, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies are in Winnipeg tonight for the first of two straight road games against the Manitoba Moose.

It's the second half of this season's series against the Moose, the only Canadian team in the American Hockey League's Western Conference, after the two teams played at Ricoh Coliseum in December.

The Moose (39-22-4-4) won both of those contests, but have struggled of late, having lost three consecutive games entering tonight.

Over the past ten games, the Marlies (48-18-1-1) have been finding success of late, winning eight of their last ten outings including a 5-1 victory over Laval on Wednesday.

Following that game, head coach Sheldon Keefe spoke about looking forward to hitting the road and facing a tough challenge against the Moose.

"We are going to play five straight games now against teams that are in the playoffs," Keefe said Wednesday. "It's going to be a good challenge for us. We just want to get out to Winnipeg and be ready."

For the Moose, it's their fifth consecutive home game at Bell MTS Place. They lost 4-3 to Rockford on Wednesday.

Special teams could prove to be an important part of tonight's game. The Marlies' top-ranked penalty kill (89.7%) will be in for a tough test against Manitoba's power play (21.1%).

Jeremy Bracco and Ben Smith, who leads the Marlies in scoring with 26 goals and 54 points, had the two goals for the Marlies in the December weekend series. Patrice Cormier and Buddy Robinson both led the Moose that weekend with two goals and an assist each.

Puck drop for tonight's game is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST and fans can tune in on AHL Live or Marlies Radio.
