Hershey Bears News Release

(Utica, NY)- Hershey netminder Adam Carlson stopped 20 of 22 shots, but the Hershey Bears yielded a goal in each period, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Utica Comets on Friday at the Adirondack Bank Center. Chris Bourque scored the lone tally for the Chocolate and White.

In the opening frame, the Bears were whistled for their first of two bench minor penalties for too many men on the ice. At 8:29, Utica cashed in to take a 1-0 lead on a deflection in front of the net. Guillaume Brisebois blasted a center point shot towards the frame that was deflected by Alexis D'Aoust past Carlson. It was the lone goal for either side in the opening 20 minutes despite an even 7-7 shots advantage.

The Bears drew even in the second period courtesy of Bourque's 14th goal of the season. Returning from a three-game suspension, Bourque rushed up ice after exiting the penalty box and beat Comet's goaltender Richard Bachman on a quick release that was low to the ice at the 1:12 mark.

The Comets answered at 14:15 to regain a one-goal advantage. D'Aoust notched his second of the night after a puck fluttered up and over Carlson from in tight. Following an offensive zone face-off for Utica, Brisebois spun around Liam O'Brien at the point with the puck on his tape, and sent a feed towards the backdoor, where D'Aoust touched it last.

Utica's 2-1 lead into the third period would stand until an empty net marker was added in the final second for a 3-1 final. Andrew Cherniwchan finished a rush up ice and scored into a vacated net after the Bears were unable to hold the puck in the offensive zone inside the final minute. Final shot totals were 26-23 in favor of the Chocolate and White, who finished 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill. The Bears record slid to 28-33-4-5 on the campaign.

The Bears return home tomorrow for a 7 p.m. tilt at Giant Center against the Laval Rocket. Fans during post game are welcome onto the ice to take part in the Dietz & Watson Ham Shoot for a chance to score a holiday ham. Ticket information is available at HersheyBears.com.
