March 30, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Devils News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Nick Lappin scored the game-winning goal in the third period as the Binghamton Devils came back to defeat the visiting Laval Rocket, 3-2, in front of 3,018 fans at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night.
The Devils failed to score off the faceoff on the power play and the Rocket made them pay with a shorthanded goal to take a 1-0 lead. Adam Cracknell took the puck down the ice and fed Chris Terry who beat Eddie Lack in net for his league-leading 66th point of the year with his 29th goal. Terry's shorthanded goal had assists from Cracknell and Eric Gelinas and Laval took the one-goal lead into the intermission despite the Devils holding a 6-5 shot advantage.
Kevin Rooney evened up the game at one goal a piece 10:33 into the second after great passing to help set him up. John Edwardh fed Michael Latta who immediately played the puck to Rooney for his 12th of the year, tying the game at one. The assist was Edwardh's first professional point in just his third game and first with Binghamton.
Laval regained the lead at 12:58 of the second period after Lack made the original save on the side of the net. Lack pushed away from the post and Gregoire jammed home his 11th of the year with assists from Thomas Ebbing and Trevor Owens to give the Rocket a 2-1 lead.
John Quenneville set up Blake Speers to tie the game again, 2-2. Quenneville moved down the left wing side and hit Speers trailing and his shot went through the legs of goaltender Michael McNiven for his 11th tally of the season. Quenneville had the only assist and the game was tied heading to the third period with the Devils leading in shots, 19-13.
The Devils scored the game-winning goal on the power play just 2:39 into the third period. Lappin ripped the puck over the shoulder of McNiven, off the cross bar, and straight down over the goal line for his team-teading 30th goal of the year and his eventual sixth game-winning goal to give the Devils a 3-2 lead. Assists on Lappin's goal were given to Quenneville and Jacob MacDonald. Lack stopped 21 for the win and McNiven denied 26 of 29 in the loss.
