
Marlies Drop IceHogs in Front of Record Crowd at Ricoh

Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies defeated the Rockford IceHogs, AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, by a score of 5-2 this afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. Today's announced attendance of 8,071 marked the largest regular season crowd at Ricoh Coliseum in franchise history. Paul Ranger's fifth goal of the season opened the scoring on a powerplay at 3:46 of the first period. Mike Zigomanis' goal just over five minutes later gave Toronto a 2-0 lead. Rockford would cut the deficit in half just past the midway point of the opening frame on a powerplay goal from Marcus Kruger. Toronto outshot Rockford 16-10 in the first period. Kenny Ryan scored his fourth goal of the year early in the second period to give the Marlies a 3-1 lead. The IceHogs would respond once again on Brandon Bollig's fifth tally of the season. Ryan Hamilton recorded the only other goal of the middle frame with the Marlies shorthanded at 15:48. Toronto would secure the victory in the final period on an empty net goal from Joe Colborne. The Marlies return to the ice on Tuesday, January 8 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Toronto's next home game is January 26 at 5 p.m. against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
