
Marlies' D Patrick Wellar loaned to Columbia

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced Sunday that the club has loaned defenceman Patrick Wellar to the ECHL's Columbia Inferno.
Patrick Wellar, a 6'3, 210-pound native of Carrot River, Saskatchewan, has appeared in two games for the Toronto Marlies since being recalled from Columbia on January 13. Wellar was held scoreless in both games and registered two penalty minutes with the Marlies.
He has skated in 35 games for the Inferno this season and led all defenceman on Columbia with 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) prior to being recalled by the Marlies. He ranks third on the Inferno with a plus-eight rating and is second with 63 penalty minutes. Wellar has recorded five multi-point games this season, including a two-goal contest on November 13, 2007 versus the Florida Everblades. Wellar has appeared in 30 AHL games over four seasons with the Toronto Marlies, Worcester IceCats and Peoria Rivermen from 2004-08.
Wellar was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the third round, 77 th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and was signed by the Toronto Marlies as a free agent on October 3, 2007.
The Marlies finish their eight-game road trip on Friday against the Binghamton Senators - AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators - at the Utica Memorial Auditorium with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST. The Marlies will return home to Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday, January 26 to host the Quad City Flames - AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames - for a 4:00 p.m. match-up.
