Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Kyle Greentree scored the game-winning goal 35 seconds into overtime to give the Phantoms a 4-3 win overtime win over the Lowell Devils in front of 7,112 delighted fans on Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The win snapped a four-game winless skid for Philadelphia, which welcomed its four millionth fan in franchise history before the game.

Lowell took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal just 3:33 into the contest. Nicklas Bergfors fired a shot from the inside of the left circle that beat Brian Boucher along the ice, giving the Devils the early advantage.

But the Phantoms answered with two power play goals of their own. Jonathan Matsumoto grabbed the first when he took the puck at the top of the right circle, waited for traffic to clear a bit and then fired a slapshot that made it through Frank Doyle's legs at 6:34. It snapped a skid of 11 games without a goal for the rookie out of Bowling Green.

Stefan Ruzicka posted the second power play marker with 8:31 to play in the period. He came down the right side and toe-dragged it around a Lowell defenseman before appearing to attempt a centering pass toward a man on the other side of the crease. But the puck was knocked back to him, and he was able to slide it over the line to give Philadelphia a 2-1 advantage.

Lowell tied it about three minutes later. Olivier Magnan-Grenier fired a slapshot from just above the left circle that made its way through traffic and beat Boucher at 14:39. It tied the game at 2-2 at the first intermission.

Darroll Powe gave the Phantoms a 3-2 lead with a shorthanded goal 5:50 into the second period. Josh Beaulieu picked off a pass at center ice, carried it into the zone and fired a shot from the left circle that was blocked. It slid to Powe, whose initial shot was stopped by Doyle, but he buried it for the one-goal advantage that held through the second intermission.

But Lowell evened affairs at the 5:23 mark of the third period. Bergfors took a shot that hit someone in front and fell right to Patrick Davis, who pushed it past Boucher's leg for the 3-3 tie.

Greentree's heroics came quickly in the extra session. Chad Anderson sent an outlet pass from his own blue line to Matsumoto on the right wing side. He carried the puck over the line and left it at the top of the right wing circle. Greentree picked it up, carried it for a few feet and then sniped one from near the faceoff dot through Doyle's five hole, setting off a raucous celebration in the left wing corner.

With the win, the Phantoms go to 28-14-1-1 on the year for 58 points. They are eight points ahead of what is now a three-way tie for second in the East Division.

The Phantoms will start the last week of their grueling January schedule on Wednesday night when they visit the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. They'll return to the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday night to host the Hershey Bears for the team's annual Teddy Bear Toss event. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX.com or phantomshockey.com, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
